Workout library: save hours of planning
How to organise a workout library by sport and training type to plan faster and more consistently.
Most sessions a coach schedules are variations on a few dozen workouts. Writing them from scratch every time wastes time and invites mistakes.
What a workout library is
A catalogue of standard workouts, with their structure, goal and instructions, ready to drop onto any athlete's calendar.
How to organise it
- By sport: running, trail, cycling, swimming, strength.
- By training type: recovery, aerobic, tempo, threshold, VO2max, hills.
- With a clear name: "Threshold 3 × 10 min" beats "Hard Tuesday".
Relative sessions
If each step's target is a zone rather than a fixed pace, the same session works for athletes of very different levels: each does it with their own zones.
Keep it alive
When a session works well with an athlete, save it. When one stops being used, archive it. In Traincontrol every coach starts with a library of 93 sessions, one per training type, which they can edit and extend.
